Police find clues to NFF official’s murder

Adelani Adepegba, Abuja
Detectives investigating the murder of the Nigeria Football Federation official, Ibrahim Abubakar and his gateman, Umar Saidu have retrieved clues that could lead to the arrest of the gang that carried out the dastardly act.
Though no arrest has been made, it was learnt on Monday that the police are following the evidence they have gathered at the crime scene.
The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu told our correspondent that police investigators were working on certain leads which he believed would assist in tracking down the killers.
“We are following some clues, no significant development yet. But be rest assured that we’ll crack the case,” Inalegwu said.
Abubakar and Saidu were killed by unknown gunmen who attacked the Kado Estate, the Abuja residence of the head of NFF protocol last week.
Both men were shot dead during the attack in which only Abubakar’s residence was targeted out of the six flats in the compound, prompting speculation that the incident was an assassination and not a robbery case.
Sources informed our correspondent that the patrol team from Life Camp Police Station that was directed to go to the crime scene did not get there on time because it was not given the right address.
A member of the patrol team said, “When we got a call from the control room, we were told the attack was happening at an estate in Mabushi. We were on our way there when we were told it was at Kado Estate.
“It seems the people who called the control room gave a wrong address and this delayed the response time. By the time we got to the crime scene, the attackers had fled. The gateman had been shot in the ribs and was already dead on the ground while the NFF man had been killed too.”

The Chairman, Security Committee, Kado Estate, Umar Usman Kotangora, had earlier accused the policemen at the estate for not responding to distress calls during the attack.
He explained that the estate had recorded many attacks by armed assailants, adding that this was the reason a police outpost was established at the entrance to the estate.
Kotangora said two compounds were attacked about five months ago, adding that a resident was stabbed in the neck during the incident.
He stated that a vigilante group that was set up to complement police efforts was disbanded following the refusal of the residents to pay security fees.
